CONFERENCE ON THE FUTURE OF EUROPE

SUBMISSION OF INITIATIVES AND PROPOSALS

May 9 marked the beginning of the works of the Conference on the Future of Europe, whose goal is to lay the basis for the reform of European institutions in coming years, of its competences and financial capacities and of its principles and decision-making procedures.

The Conference on the Future of Europe offers a unique opportunity at the right time for European citizens to discuss Europe’s challenges and priorities.

Thus, the Congress of Deputies and the Senate are willing and must assume their responsibility in this EU reform process. To this end, they can rely on an essential working tool: the Joint Committee for the European Union, which, in close contact with the Government of Spain, has followed the process leading to the Conference and which in coming months shall conduct the discussion activities of the Conference in Spain, both within and outside the Parliament.

To this end, the Congress and the Senate have set up within the Joint Committee for the European Union a public e-mail for the submission of initiatives and proposals which shall be subsequently analyzed and considered by the Committee.

The proposals submitted must deal with the main issues discussed in the Conference:

  • European democracy/values, rights, rule of law, security
  • Climate change, environment/health
  • Stronger economy, social justice, jobs/ education, youth, culture, sport/ digital transformation
  • EU in the world/migration
